Sarah Eddy was born on Isle LaMotte. Grand Isle County, Vermont, Aug. 6th, 1838, and died Jan. 24, 1913, aged 75 years, five months and eighteen days.
She was united in marriage to John W. Stockman, July 4, 1854 and in May 1855, they journeyed by wagon to Iowa, first settling in Clayton county, afterwards moving to the farm near Kendallville on which they lived for nearly forty years.
Eight children were born to them, six of whom are living, two sons and four daughters; William A. and Winfield S. of Howard county, Iowa, Mrs. Bina Pooler, of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Mary Chamberlain, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie Brown and Mrs. Luana Howard, of Winnesheik county, Iowa.
Mrs. Stockman was one of our pioneer mothers—a mother in the truest sense of the word, and a good woman. A friend to every one who knew her and a regular attendant at her church services, loyal and true to her God, she will be greatly missed.
Some weeks ago she was stricken with paralysis and never recovered from the shock. At the time of her death she was at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Eugene Howard, at which place the funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon by Rev. B. W. Soper, assisted by Rev. John Gammons. Interment in the Eddy cemetery near Kendallville.
