OBITUARIES.
LYDIA A. BLACKINTON. Last Monday afternoon a quiet funeral laid away in her last resting place another of Decorah’s pioneer settlers. After an illness of many months Lydia A. Blackinton, widow of John Blackinton, died on the 17th inst. She was the daughter of the late Deacon James Smith and the only surviving member of the family that began its residence in Decorah early in the fifties. Mrs. Blackington was born at Albany, New York, July 6, 1824, married to John Blackington at Rockford, Ill., in February, 1843, and came to Decorah in September, 1856, when she was 32 years old. Her residence, therefore, in this city covers a period of forty-four years. In early life, when but thirteen years old, she united with a church in Albany, N Y., and became a member of the Congregational church of this city in 1857. So long as she was able, she maintained active relations with her church and greatly enjoyed its privileges. Her daughter, Mrs. Emma B. Haskell, and grandson, Herbert Haskell, are the only surviving relatives. Funeral services were held at the house and were attended by a goodly company of old acquaintances and friends.Transcriber’s Note: The last name is spelled two different ways.
