OBITUARY.
Last Sunday, Aug. 26, 1900, another of our old citizens departed for the other world. This time it was Mrs. Johanna Matthes, who lived on the state road, West Decorah, Mrs. Matthes was born Sept. 30, 1829, at Hamburg, Germany. She was twice married; her first marriage with Friederich Krueger was blessed with three chilren. A son, who lives in Brazil, and two daughters, are living in Chicago, and the other, (Mrs. Langhans) lives in West Decorah.
After the death of her first husband, she was married the second time, in September, 1867, to Louis Matthes, who survives her. Of this union no children were born. In June, 1875, they, like many others, came to this country to make their home. A little over two years they lived at Clayton Center, Ia., from whence they came to Decorah, where Mrs. Matthes died.
Her husband and three children, with many relatives and friends, mourn her death. May there be a grand reunion of all in heaven
The funeral services were hold at her late home m West Decorah, Tuesday afternoon, Aug 28, 1900, conducted by Rev. W. V. Schlung, pastor of the German M. E. church of this city.
