THE SILENT REAPER.
JOHN KNOX
This well known citizen of Burr Oak township died on Tuesday as a result of an operation for appendicitis, which is detailed by our Burr Oak correspondent. It is an event to be regretted in every way. Mr. Knox was born in Ireland in 1844, and came to this country with this parents when nine years old, and to Winnesheik county in 1856. He was a man of intelligence, who kept pace with current events as a reader and student while following his avocation as a farmer. In February, 1873, he married Miss Mary E. Whalen, and to them were born ten children, eight of whom, and the mother, are living to mourn his death. By sturdy industry and skill in farming he acquired a 400-acre farm, and it is noteworthy that in all gatherings such as farmers’ institutes he took an active interest, and generally an active part. In politics Mr. Knox was an earnest Democrat, and could always give a strong reason for the faith that was in him. His township and the general public, as well as his stricken relatives, lose much in this death.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in St. Agnes Cemetery and his gravestone shows he was born in 1846. It shows he was born August 7.
