DEATH OF J. H. WOMELDORF.
A Pioneer Resident of Winnesheik County Dies at His Home In Nebraska.
Jacob H. Womeldorf was born in Logan county, Pennsylvania, May 22, 1834, and removed with his parents while yet a child to the state of Illinois, and later to Iowa, where in Decorah he lived for years.
He was united in wedlock to Miss Sarah E. Kniss, June 6, 1860. Mr. Womeldorf enlisted for service in the Union army at the breaking out of the rebellion. He was captured at Shiloh, and confined in Libby, Andersonvllle, and Macon, Georgia, prisons. When released from prison his health was so broken that he was discharged from service. He removed with his family to Nebraska in 1880, and has lived here since that date.
While only a boy he accepted Christ and united with the M. E. church and has been a faithful, consistent Christian, and a devoted member of his chosen church from first to last. At all times he was a man. In character as pure and gentle as a woman. He was twice elected Sheriff of Winnesheik county, Iowa. In 1882 he came to Antelope county, Nebraska, where he engaged in farming. In 1883 he removed from his farm to Neligh for the benefit of the schools for his children. In Neligh he was widely and favorably known. About two years ago Mr. Womeldorf and wife removed from Neligh to Cozad, Nebraska, and from there to Kearney, to be with his only daughter, Mrs. Jennie L. Davis, when on the evening of Sunday, May 26, he was called home.
The remains were brought to Neligh, and on May 31st were tenderly laid to rest in Laurel Hill cemetery, the funeral being in charge of Neligh Post No. 68, G. A. R. Rev. E. T George of the M. E. church preached the funeral sermon. During deceased's long sickness he has been a great but patient sufferer. Mr. Womeldorf leaves behind a true devoted wife, two sons, William and Charles, and one daughter, Mrs. Jennie L, Davis.
