Milton Leander Webster was born in Will ngton,{?} Ohio, Jan. 27th, 1829, and died May 4th, 1900. In 1859 be moved to Shelbyville, Ill. In 1861 he enlisted in the 14th Illinois Infantry and was elected 2d Lieutenant of Co. 13. Later he was commissioned as recruiting officer and returned to Shelbyville, where he raised Co. H. 7th Illinois Cavalry, and was elected captain of Co. in which capacity he served until the expiration of his term of service. During this term he received a severe injury by a tree being blown upon his tent, his lieutenant and bunk mate being killed by the falling of the same tree. When the G Army was organized he was one of the first to become a member, and ever afterward was an enthusiastic member of same. He had often expressed the desire that at death the Grand Army of the Republic should have charge of his remains, which request was carried out. He came to Castalia, Iowa, in 1875, where he married Miss Emma Windell in 1882. As a result of this union four children were born, one girl and three boys, all of whom with his wife survive him. The funeral was held from the U. B. church of this place, on Sunday last, the Rev. C. A. Parkin officiating. The church was nicely decorated with flags and bunting for the occasion, and was well filled with friends and neighbors who came to pay their last respects to the dead. The friends of the deceased have the sincere sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.
