Mrs. Annie Wittenmeyer died at Sarotago, Pa., on the 2d. Who was she? No need to ask an Iowa soldier that question during the last years of the war of the rebellion. She began working to aid the soldier in the field almost as soon as sick, wounded and dying soldiers needed succor, and kept at it as long as there was one who needed the sweet comfort that a greathearted, motherly woman could give. She was an untitled General in the army of volunteer nurses who ministered to the wants of the boys who were left in hospitals or lay wounded on the battle field. Thousands of such will drop a tear to the memory of Mrs. Wittenmeyer.
