Mrs. Celia Gilbert, wife of John Gilbert, who resided about 6 miles east of Frankville, died Jan. 27th of consumption, at the age of 52 years. She had been sick for the last thirty years and endured a great deal of suffering, although being able to be about her household duties till within a couple of weeks of her death. Her maiden name was Celia Cochran. She leaves a husband and four boys—Frank, George, Arthur and Ernest to mourn for her. The oldest son Frank lives in the western part of the state and the others live at home. She has been very patient during her affliction and lived uncomplainingly. She has been a member of the Methodist church for a number of years but several years ago she severed her connection with that church and united with her family to the Presbyterian church, of this place, of which she was a member when she died. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Monday, Jan. 29th, Rev. Gregg delivering the sermon, the burial being made in the Frankville cemetery. The friends from abroad who were here to attend the funeral were—Geo. Robertson and wife their daughters Jessie and Mrs. Viola Rusk, of Waukon, Mrs. Gilbert’s sister, Mrs. Eva Chaffee, of Kenosha, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Albert, of Lansing, the latter being a sister of Mr. Gilbert. Leo Cochran and wife, of Leroy, Minn., were with the deceased during her last days. Others who were noticed at the funeral were George Waters and wife, of Postville, Mrs. Esther Meikle, of Waukon, and Mrs. Inga Shattuck from near Waukon. A large concourse of people attended the service although it was a very cold day.
