Jeane L. Goulson, age 92, of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, April 23, 2020 at her home.

Because of state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.

Private family burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, with Rev. Chad Huebner officiating.

Jeane Louise (Wanke) Goulson was born January 6, 1928 to Christian and Margaret (Ketelsen) Wanke on a farm outside Montevideo, MN. The family moved to town when she was 5 years old. She attended Montevideo Public Schools, graduating in 1946. After graduation she attended business school in Minneapolis and worked there for a time before moving home to Montevideo. It was there she met her future husband, Roger Goulson, at a dance. They were united in marriage at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN on February 4, 1951. She and Roger moved to Decorah in 1952 when he accepted a teaching position at Decorah High School. The couple joined First Lutheran Church in Decorah upon their arrival where they worshipped all their married life.

Jeane and Roger were blessed with 2 children, Mark Roger Goulson, born December 22, 1952, and Karen Jeane Goulson Allen, born January 17, 1957. When the children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom and was both a den mother for her son’s scout troop and a Brownie leader for her daughter’s scout troop. She later worked at the Winneshiek County Clerk’s office and the Winneshiek Title and Abstract Company.

Jeane taught herself to play piano as a girl and enjoyed playing the piano and singing - she had a beautiful soprano voice and she and her daughter often sang and played duets together. Jeane enjoyed square dancing, traveling with friends, cooking, and playing games with her grandchildren. She was also an avid quilter and produced many, many beautiful hand-stitched quilts though the years.

Jeane is survived by her husband, Roger Goulson, her children Mark (Kathy) Goulson of Decorah, IA and Karen (Douglas) Allen of Marshalltown, IA, six grandchildren: Emily (Jeremy) Barnes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Benjamin (Rachel Arneson) Goulson, Rolf (Jennifer) Goulson, Tom Goulson, all of Decorah, IA, Caitlin (Kyle) Krabbe of Davenport, IA, and Quinn Allen of Waterloo, IA, and 10 great-grandchildren: Magnus, Miles, Marcus, Alex, Alandra, Isaias, Athena, Georgia, August, and Calvin. She is also survived by her brother Henry Wanke of Topeka, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Vernida Van Meveren and several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws.
