Death of a Respected Citizen.
One item that the REPUBLICAN was compelled to defer until this week was notice of the death of Mr. Michael Coughlin, which occurred at the home on east Water street on Thanksgiving day. Mr. Coughlin has been a respected resident of Decorah since 1862 pursuing his trade as a cobbler. He was born in Roscommon, Ireland, in 1832, and came to America in 1845. In the year that he settled in Decorah he was married to Miss Johanna Casey. He is survived by his wife and seven children, the latter being Mrs. Mary Knox, of LaCrosse, Mrs. D. P. Taylor, Mrs. D. F. Hirschman and Miss Joan Coughlin, of Minneapolis, Mrs. Webster Rosa, of Frankville township, John Coughlin, of Colorado, and Frank, who is living at home. Mr. Coughlin has been in failing health for three years past, but continued at his trade until the early part of the year. The cause of his death was a cancerous tumor of the stomach. The funeral services were hold at the Catholic church in this city on Monday morning of last week and the remains were interred it the Catholic cemetery.
