In 1861 he was married to Johanna Peterson. To them seven children were born, three of whom—Mrs. Otto Arneson, of Fargo, Mrs. P. C. Tonning, of Madison, Minn., and Rev. John Halvorson, of Minneapolis,—with the widow survive. In 1871 they came to America and settled at Marshalltown, this state, where they remained until 1874, when they came to Decorah to reside. In this country Mr. Halvorson has followed marble cutting as a business. In his native language Mr. Halvorson was well educated and possessed move than average ability in expressing himself. He has born himself as a good citizen and enjoyed the respect of a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
