Inez Klepper, age 96, of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah following a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 20 at Salem United Church of Christ, Waukon, with Pastor Judy Scheer officiating. Burial was in the Salem United Cemetery. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Inez Lydia (Goeke) Klepper was born April 20, 1907, the daughter of Otto and Amelia (Adam) Goeke in Ludlow Township near Postville, Iowa. Inez attended country school and at the age of sixteen, she took care of her elderly grandmother for one year.

Inez married Elmer Klepper March 14, 1929, at the Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon and farmed in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties from 1959 to 1972. After Elmer died in 1972, Inez moved to Freeport, near Decorah. She lived there until she went to the nursing home in 2002.

Inez enjoyed crocheting; making many afghans and canning her garden produce. She was also a wonderful cook, making excellent bread and cookies.

Survivors include three daughters, Bernita (Leo) Holthaus of Dakota City, Iowa, Geneva (Richard) Nelson of Decorah, and Judy (James) Reckward of Decorah; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Elmer in 1972; one stillborn son, Elmer; one sister, Ida Klepper; and one brother, Robert Goeke.

Casketbearers were Roger Nelson, Brad Reckward, Darin Reckward, Chad Reckward, Raymond Nelson, and Dennis Reckward.
