Death of Mrs. John Asseln

Geshe Margarethe Wedeken was born Nov. 29, 1840, in Zetel, Germany. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the age of fourteen. Jan. 19, 1864, she was united in marriage with John Asseln and three years later, they came to America, locating in Decorah where the family home has been ever since.

The husband and father passed away Dec. 7, 1915. The surviving children are Emil of Los Angeles, Calif., Dr. W. O. of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Henry Woldt, Mrs. Howard Barthell and Therese of this city.

Mrs. Asseln was a very quiet retiring disposition and was extremely devoted to her home, and family. No sacrifice being too great for their welfare. Being a great reader, her mind was unusually alert nd active, and she was always interested and up to date in the affairs of the world. The mysteries and beauties of nature held a wonderful charm for her and one of the great pleasures was caring for her flowers and garden. She was equally active in household affairs and her untiring hands wrought many a treasured piece of needlework, although her health during the last few years was rather frail.

She was taken seriously ill June 8, and a few days later was moved to the hospital where everything possible for loving hands and the efficient care of the trained nurses was done. But Sunday afternoon at 5:15 she gently slept away.

Dr. W. O. and Mrs. Asseln of St. Paul arrived Sunday evening and the funeral will be held at her home on the west side this afternoon, Rev. Woodall officiating, with interment in help’s Cemetery.
