EVA I. BATTEY-At her home bear Hesper, on November 12th, 1895, of typhoid fever, at the age of 14 years, 5 months and 26 days.

She was born and lived nearly all her life in Winneshiek County, near Hesper. Her life was so innocent and pure that she has the love and esteem of all who knew her. From a child she has been a Christian. Two years ago last winter she made a public profession of her faith in Christ and has continued to the present a faithful witness for Him. She a buried from the Friend’s Church the 14th, the house being filled with sympathizing friends. The school adjourned, the teachers and scholars being present. They showed deeply how they felt the loss of a loved scholar. The sermon was preached by Dr. Slack from Rev. 22:5-“And there shall be no night there.” After the service she was laid to rest in the cemetery in the southern part of the village of Hesper. There was present at her funeral three sister and one brother.
