JAMRS HEADINGTON

“Uncle Jimmie” Headington, as he was familiarly known by a large and loving circle of relatives and acquaintances, was born near Wheeling, East, Va., Oct 27, 1811, and died at his home in Canoe Township, three and one-half miles north of the this city, on the 27th day of December, 1900. He had lived the unusual period of two months more that eighty-nine years, and passed way not from disease but from genuine old age. While yet a young boy, he, with his parents, removed to Knox Co., Ohio. When grown to manhood he married Miss Mary Lepley, by whom he had thirteen children, eight of whom survive him. In 1849 he removed with his family to Wyandotte Co., Ohio, where he resided fourteen years. There he lost his wife and two children. Two children were buried in Knox Co. In 1855 he was married to Mrs. Barbara Hammel, who bore him one child. In the fall of 1859 he and his family came to Winneshiek County, Iowa where he purchased the farm on which he has since resided. As the years past he turned into a patriarchal relation to numerous relatives as well as acquaintances, by all whom he was much loved and respected for his hospitality, genial disposition and sterling qualities as a man of business. His wife died in 1895, and the surviving children are Mrs. Joseph Everly, living at Cuba, Mo., Mrs. Sarah Huffman, living at Lucerne, Mo., Mrs. John Stortz, of Canoe Township, Jacob Headington, of this city, Rose and George A., both living on the home farm. Of the grandchildren there are many.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. Willett, of Decorah, held at his residence on Sunday at 1:30 o’clock, where he was followed to his resting place by a large body of relatives and friends.

—In the obituary of uncle Jas. Headington, last week, the name of his third daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Brace, living at Wellsville, Mo., was inadvertantly omitted. It was a printer's error, as was the name Ross, one of the sons, printed as Rose.
