This community was shocked Saturday afternoon by the intelligence that Mrs. Philip Schmidt had died very suddenly. Mrs. Schmidt had just arrived in town and had just gone into the Lowry drug store to make some purchases when she suffered a stroke of apoplexy, dying almost instantly. The body was removed to the Andrew Smith home, and Sunday was taken to the family home near Ridgeway from which place the funeral will be held today. Rev. L. N. Day, pastor of the Evangelical church officiating, the interment being the Evangelical cemetery near Ridgeway.

The funeral of Mrs. Philip Smith, who died suddenly last Saturday while in Cresco, was held here on Tuesday j morning, Rev. Damerow of Decorah, pastor of the German M. E. church, conducted the services. The friends and relatives of the deceased showed their respects by their large attendance. The sorrow stricken husband and children have the sympathy of the community at large in this dark hour of bereavement. May they receive comfort for their aching hearts from Him who alone can give it. Her remains were laid to rest in the M. E. cemetery close by the church.
