A late copy of the Whatcom Daily Reivelle announces the death of George L. Morgan, who was born in Hesper, Iowa, Feb. 16, 1873, and died at Lakeside, on Lake Chelan, Chelan Co., Wash., Dec. 3, 1902. The funeral service was held at the home of his parents at Enterprise, Wash., on Dec. 6. A large number of friends of the family from Whatcom and elsewhere attended the funeral, including a number of the attorneys of the Whatcom County Bar, of which Mr. Morgan was formerly a member. He studied law in Whatcom where he also began practice. Later he located in Chelan county where he was rapidly rising in his profession and was nominated by the Republicans of that county for prosecuting attorney about the time his fatal illness seized him. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Mackey of the High Street Presbyterian church. Hon. H. E. Hadley spoke in behalf of the bar and paid a tribute to the memory of Mr. Morgan as a young man of great promise and of the highest character. The consoling thought expressed was that his career is not ended but that the memory of his life and character will live on as an inspiration to all who knew him. Mr. Morgan was sick with heart trouble about three months in the hospital at Lakeside. His sister Miss Rose Morgan was with him almost continually and his mother Mrs. H. Morgan and another sister, Mrs. S. L. Jones, were with him at the time of his death. Why such young men are stricken down, and so many worse than useless ones left, is one of the mysteries of life which it is hard to comprehend.
