OBITUARIES
TIMOTHY FINN.
After an illness of more than a year from valvular disease of the heart Timothy Finn died Tuesday morning at one o'clock at the home of his brother John Finn on John street. Mr. Finn was born Doc. 9, 1838, in County Tipperary Ireland, and was the second son of Patrick and Bridget Finn. The family sailed for America in October, 1847, and during their voyage, which ended at New Orleans in February, 1848, the father died. From New Orleans the family went to Galena, Ill., where they lived for several years. John Finn came to Decorah in 1855 and in 1861 Timothy followed and joined him here in business. During the late summer and early fall of 1862 Co. D, 6th Iowa Cavalry, was recruited in Decorah and Mr. Finn took an active interest with the late T. W. Burdick in organizing the company. The company was mustered in in October and Mr. Finn was elected second lieutenant, later being advanced to first lieutenant. This company served in the Dakotas and along the Montana line fighting Indians. After the war closed he returned to Decorah and again became identified with his brother in the hardware trade. A number of years ago he retired, and having gathered a competence through his business and in land investments, devoted himself to money loaning and investments in securities. By his death his brother John is left as the sole survivor of the family that came from Ireland in 1848.
The funeral will be held to-morrow (Friday) morning at St. Benedict’s church at 9 o’clock.
