Died this Morning,
Patrick McCusker, who has been ill for a number of months died this morning at his home in the fourth ward. At this time we are not able to secure any data as to his life but it is well known that he was a veteran of the civil war and as an old resident of the county has enjoyed the respect and esteem of a largo circle of acquaintances. For many years previous to his coming to Decorah he resided near Frankville where he was successful as a farmer. The Late Patrick McCusker.
At the time of going to press last Thursday we were unable to give any of the material facts regarding the life of Patrick McCusker, whose death occurred that morning. These were contained in the obituary published in the other city papers this week and we give them herewith:
Mr. McCusker was born in the town of Fintona{?} county Tyrone, Ireland, Feb 9, 1842. He came with his parents to America the year 1847, the family making their home at Galena, Ill., until 1857 when they moved to Prairie du Chien, Wis. In 1858 Mr. McCusker moved to Washington Prairie, Winnesheik county, where he resided until 1894, when he removed to Decorah, where his home has been until his death.
Mr. McCusker was one of the brave defenders of the Union, enlisting Aug. 16, 1862, with Co. E 38th Iowa Vol. Inf. He was mustered into service Nov. 4th of the same year and faithfully served his country in many engagements until he received an honorable discharge Aug. 15, 1865.
May 23, 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary J. Kennedy, by which union three sons and one daughter were born, to them. Mrs. McCusker preceded her husband in death a number or years ago, and on Dec. 28 1884 he was married to Mrs. Catherine Callender, who with the children before mentioned, James A. and Miss Della of this city, Clarence J. of Chicago, and Harry of Ocheydan, survive him.
He is also survived by two brothers and four sisters, Michael McCusker of Cherokee, and Frank McCusker, of Akron, this state, Mrs. B. Garman{?} of Walla Walla, Wash, Mrs. Henry Kennedy of Cherokee, Mrs. Catherine Parkhouse, of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Mary Clarkson of Sheldon. All of the immediate family and his brother Michael and sister Mrs. Parkhouse were present, at the services, which were held at the Catholic church in this city Sunday morning, at 8:30 o’clock. Rev. Hawe officiating. After which the remains were taken to the Catholic cemetery in Ossian and interred by the side of his first wife.Transcriber’s Note: A couple of the names are hard to read so I made my best guess.
