OBITUARY.
MARIA HOLWAY
—widow of Geo N. Holway, for a quarter century one of the best known citizens of Winneshiek county—died at the home of her son, Wm. N. Holway in Los Angeles, Cal., on the 12th inst. The event was not unexpected, and for several weeks she had been looking hopefully, for release, having done all she had planned to do in this life. Maria Ellison was born in Duchess county, N, Y., married Mr. Holway in Canada, in 1851, and soon afterward they came to Iowa, and made their home in Hesper township until the election of Mr. H. in 1855, to be Treasurer of this county, caused their removal to Decorah. The later years of their lives were spent in South Dakota, and after the death of her husband, Mrs. Holway went to California to be with and near her sons William and Ruliff. Two years ago she paid a summer visit to her eldest son, Edward.
She had nearly filled ninety years— with patience and cheerfulness taking up each duty as it came to her hand, and quietly enjoying the pleasures that were allotted to her.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name as Amy Marie and that she is buried in Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. She was born Oct. 20, 1812.
