Death of Senator Mattoon.
We regret to learn from the Elgin Echo that Dr. L. B. Mattoon, the pred¬cessor of Hon J. H. Trewin as senator from the Fayette-Allamakee district, died at Kenmare, N, D., on Tuesday morning last week. The particulars us given by the Echo are these:—
About ten days ago Mr. Mattoon, in company with C. R. Becker and Gus A. Stehr, left Elgin for that northern city to look after business connected with their coal mine interests there. Last Monday evening the Doctor went to bed feeling well as usual and the next morning was found dead in his bed. Heart failure was the cause of his death.
Dr. Mattoon was a successful physician, a genial personage, and had secured a fine competence that easily made him an important factor in the business affairs of Elgin. In politics he was an ardent democrat.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Elgin City Cemetery and was born April 29, 1847 and died June 10, 1902.
