A Sad Bereavement.
The many friends of she who was Miss Bessie Volding will be pained to learn that her husband, Charles A. Brown, died on Friday, Feb. 28, at their home in Washington, D. C. Mr. Brown had the distinction of being the youngest recruit in the civil war from the state of Maine, he having enlisted at the age of eleven years as a drummer boy in the 32d Maine volunteers. At the close of the war he was appointed to a place in the Treasury Department by President Lincoln, a position which he retained for a third of a century. His death was due to bronchial troubles contracted in service. Besides his wife he leaves one son.
