Another Veteran Gone Home,
Intelligence was received in this city on Thursday last, of the death of Matt L. Hislop, a former resident of this city. The event took place on Thursday, the 13th inst. at his home in Litchfield, Neb., where he has resided for upwards of twenty years. Mr. Hislop is a brother of Thomas and George Hislop of this city and was a member or Co. K, 28th Iowa regiment in the War of the Rebellion. After the war was over, he came to Decorah and for many years followed his trade of boot and shoe maker until he went to the southern part of the state, and then into Nebraska where he acquired a homestead. Mr. Hislop was an earnest member of the G. A. R. and has been confined to his bed since Memorial Sunday last year. On that day he insisted on getting out to attend services, was helped to the hall and returned home to become a shut-in invalid during the remaining months of his life., He remained conscious to the end. He was interred in the suit of blue which he wore on all public occasions and was buried with all the honors his comrades could bestow upon him. His wife and one son, one daughter, three brothers and one sister survive him.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in the Litchfield Cemetery and was born June 6, 1838.
