Another Pioneer Gone.
Death came to Thomas R. Powers, on Saturday, at his farm southwest of Cresco, where he had gone about three weeks ago, to look after matters. He had not been in good health for some time, but thought he was well enough to make the trip. He was taken seriously ill last week, and on Saturday his son and daughter, E. J. and Miss Mamie of Decorah went to the farm, and the same day their father passed away. The remains were taken to Decorah on Monday, and the funeral services held from St. Benedict’s Catholic church, Rev. Fr. Hawe officiating, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.
Thomas Richard Powers was 74 years of age. He was born in Ireland, came to America, and to Decorah in young manhood, being married at Decorah in the sixties to Miss Elizabeth Enright, who died twenty-three years ago. For many years he conducted the farm in Howard county on which he died, retiring on account of poor health ten or twelve years ago and going to Decorah, where he since resided. He is survived by five children, one son and four daughters, E. J., Miss Mamie and Mrs. Henry J. Holverson of Decorah Mrs. I. O. Kotzebue of Deadwood, S D.| and Miss Elizabeth of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs.John Curtin of Decorah and Mrs. Smith of Deadwood.
Mr. Powers was a man who took deep interest in public affairs, an honorable and upright citizen, and during his long life in this vicinity gained large friendship who will regret to learn of his passing, and will unite in sympathy to the bereaved.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in St. Benedict Cemetery shows he was born in 1838.
