Fatal Automobile Accident.
A fatal automobile accident occurred late yesterday afternoon about five miles southeast of Cresco, on the Cresco-Ridgeway road. Two related families, the men named Chas. Marple and John Yost, farmers residing a few miles from Albert Lea, Minn., with their wives and three children, were enroute for a visit with relatives at McGregor, Iowa. While going down a hill near Mr. Beucher's the driver-Yost, endeavored to put on the brake, but it is thought that he became confused and opened the throttle that put on more speed. The car commenced to run from side to side of the road and the sharp turns made to keep the machine in the road must have turned it into a ditch. The occupants of the car state that the machine turned completely over and then rolled sideways. All the occupants were thrown out except the two men, who were pinned under the car. Yost was killed, but spoke three times to Marple, asking him to lift the car off.
Aid was summoned and the body of the dead man was brought to Cresco by Mr. Meverden and the other members of the party were also brought in.
The injured man, Marple, is at the Central House and it is not known whether or not he will be able to return with the others when they leave to-day.
The car, a new “E. M. F.”, was but slightly damaged and was run back to Cresco by its own power.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Bear Creek Cemetery in Freeborn County, MN and was born April 9, 1883 and died Sept. 15, 1910.
