Webster.
Mrs. William Webster was born in Ireland July 11th, 1836, and died at her home in Cresco Tuesday Jan. 18, 1910. Came with her mother to Elgin, Ill., when fifteen years old. In 1855 at Elgin she was married to William Webster, and the following year they moved to the farm north of Kendallville which was to be their home for nearly half a century. They moved to Cresco eight years ago, where the husband died Nov. 29, 1903. Eleven children were born to them, seven of whom are still living—Dr. Geo. W., and Miss Hattie of Chicago, J. C. and W. J. of Cresco. H. T. of Elgin, Mrs. C. P. Lemon of Lyle, Minn., Mrs. T. H. Jones of Cresco, all of whom were present at the funeral, which was held at the home today, Rev. John Gammons officiating. Burial was in the Kendallville cemetery.
She was a pioneer. No one of the younger generation can pay a proper tribute to the pioneer, because we can never know the sacrifice they have made for us. The most we can do is to humbly acknowledge the debt. Mrs. Webster was a woman of rare intellec¬tual attainments and was a strong factor in shaping the community life during the early days when so much depended on strong intelligent leadership. As a community we are better for this good woman’s life and influence.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone in Kendallville-Eddy Cemetery shows her year of birth as 1834 and that her name was Mary A.
