A Worthy Citizen Passes Away.
Gulbrand O. Rustad, one of Decorah’s oldest residents, died yesterday about noon, after a week’s illness from stomach trouble. Probably no Decor an. following the quieter walk of life, was more widely or more favorably known than Mr. Rustad. Coming to Decorah at an early date, he indentified{sp} himself prominently with the First Lutheran Church, and in 1862 became treasurer of the Synod, a position he continued to hold with honor both to himself and the Synod until relieved at his own request in 1900. To a charcter{sp} of sterling christianity and manhood he added a serene and cheerful demeanor that made everyone who knew him a friend, and won respect and esteem on all sides.
Mr. Rustad was born in Valders, Norway, Aug. 5th, 1826 came to America in 1852 and settled at Beloit, Wis., was married at Rock Prairie, June 23, 1854, to Miss Kjerste Sondrol, and came to Decorah April 15th, 1855. He is survived by his wife and three children: Mrs. H. M. Hanson of Janesville, Wis., Mrs. Richard Schrubbe of Decorah, and Andrew Rustad of Hallock, Minn
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 27th, at the First Lutheran Church, at 2:30 o’clock, Rev I. B. Torrison officiating.
