Died from Heart Disease.
Without a moment’s warning, Mrs. O. C. Johnson died Monday evening about six o’clock. She was sitting in her kitchen preparing the evening meal, when she spoke to her daughter and said, “It is getting so dark,” and the next moment fell from her chair. Drs. Stevens and Hoeg was called, but she was past all medical aid, Mrs. Johnson’s death was a great shock not alone to her family but to a large circle of friends. She was a lady who was greatly interested in the religious work of the First Lutheran church and during the afternoon had been out as a member of a committee to prepare for a Thanksgiving festival at Luther College. Although she has suffered at times from trouble with her heart, during the past few months she had been unusually well, and there was no premonition of her sudden death. Mrs. Johnson’s maiden name was Anna Bakke. She was born Oct. 8, 1846, in Muskoge, Wis., and came with her parents to Spring Grove in 1853. On May 10, 1862, she was married to O. C. Johnson. For two years they lived on their farm in Hesper township and then came to Decorah where they have since resided She is survived by her husband and one daughter. In their affliction the family have the sympathy of a wide circle of acquaintances and friends.
