The Silent Reaper.
After an illness covering several weeks, but during only two of which was she confined to her bed, Mrs. A. C. Ferron died Monday afternoon, Aug. 31st, aged 67 years and 3 mouths.
Her maiden name was Martha Ann Davis, and she was born June 1st, 1836, near Saco, Me. During the years of her girlhood she lived with a sister, most of the time at Lowell, Mass. On February 19, 1851, she was married to A. C. Ferren and they resided in Nashua, and Lawrence, Mass., until In 1853, when they moved to Menasha, Wis. Here, in 1854, Mr. Ferren built a steam boat which he and Mrs. Ferren, with the assistance of an engineer, ran on the Fox and Wolf rivers, engaged in trading and passenger traffic. In January 1855, they returned to the east and lived for one year, when they came west again, stopping for a short time at Madison, Wis., and coming on to McGregor in November, in 1856. In July, 1857, they came to Decorah, which has ever since been their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Ferren had no children of their own, but Mrs. Fannie Ferren Tibbetts, of Armour, S. D., is their adopted daughter, and she has been as their own to them, while at the same time she has received all the loving care that her own mother might have bestowed.
In the earlier days, and whenever ill health did not prevent in her later years, Mrs. Ferren was a regular attendant at the the Methodist church. For a long time she has been an invalid and as a consequence could not get out much, but among her intimate acquaintances she was esteemed as a sincere friend, and a faithful wife and mother. During the summer she has been ill from a complication of diseases, growing weaker steadily, and two weeks ago she was confined to her bed. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. K. W. Robbins officiating, and the remains were interred in the Phelps cemetery beside those of Mrs. Tebbitt’s own mother.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows she was born in 1834. Also, the adopted daughter's name is spelled two different ways.
