Died in New Mexico.
Decorah relatives received the sad intelligence Tuesday that Horace Carlisle had died that morning at Hot Springs, New Mexico, a health resort in the mountains near Las Vegas. Horace was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Carlisle, of Chicago, and was about eighteen years of age. Early last year he came to Decorah and entered the Winneshiek County State Bank, and it was the expectation that as one of the heirs in the Weiser estate he would grow up in the business and eventually become actively associated in the management of the banks affairs. In the early fall he contracted what seemed to be a severe cold, but it did not respond to the usual forms of treatment, and ere his relatives were aware of it, consumption had fastened its relentless grip upon him. How serious his condition really had become was made apparent this spring when hemorrhage set in. He was taken to New Mexico at once, but the disease had already progressed too far for even a partial recovery to be effected. Horace was a bright young man, one in whom his parents felt a justifiable pride, and this affliction is a sad one to them in every respect. The sympathy of a large circle of Decorah friends is extended them la this bereavement. The remains will arrive in Decorah this afternoon at 3:25 o’clock, and the funeral service will be held at the residence of C. J. Weiser at 4 o’clock, Rev. M. Willett, officiating.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Phelps Cemetery and was born January 13, 1885 and died August 4, 1903.
