Richard Anderson, age 86, of Decorah died Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon.

Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust at 1638 Big Canoe Rd. with Todd Burrichter presiding.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00am at the church on Thursday.

Richard Dale Anderson was born September 19, 1933 on the family farm in Pleasant township to Ole and Isabell (Usgaard) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust. He went to country school and farmed with his father. Richard married Elaine Groth on November 25, 1961 at St. John’s. To this union, four boys were born, Joel, Jamie, Tim and Troy. He was active in 4-H, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau and served on the board for Winneshiek Mutual. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, water skiing and bowling in his younger years. He enjoyed racing cars and more recently watching his sons and grandsons’ race and watching the Green Bay Packers. He spent many days with his Red tractors and Hereford cattle.

Richard is survived by his wife; Elaine Anderson, Decorah, IA. Four sons: Joel Anderson, Jamie Anderson, Tim Anderson and Troy (Sarah) Anderson all of Decorah. Five grandchildren: Kyle (Crystal) Anderson; Robert Anderson (fiancé Taji Ahouse); Josh (Whitney) Anderson; Jesse Anderson; Hawkins Anderson. Six great-grandchildren. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Ole and Isabell Anderson. One brother Palmer (June) Anderson; one sister Lucielle (Howard) Wendling. His father and Mother-in-law Gerhard (Irene) Groth.
