Lester “Les” Guttebo, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019, at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Jennifer Edinger presiding. Burial will be prior to the services at 11:00 a.m. in the Washington Prairie Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Church.

Les was born October 22, 1939, in Decorah to Levi and Nora (Mikelson) Guttebo. He was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church. Les graduated from Decorah High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Karen Blekeberg on September 26, 1964 and they were blessed with three children.

Les was a self-employed milk hauler for 26 years and enjoyed his camaraderie with all of his customers. He and Karen owned and operated the Gallery of Tops for ten years. He drove a school bus for 47 years and always enjoyed the kids. When anyone asked him when he was going to retire from the bus route, his answer was always, “The day that it isn't fun anymore”. Unfortunately, he didn't get to choose when he retired because of his sudden illness.

Les farmed all of his life on the family's century farm and enjoyed every minute he was there. There were three things in life that he especially loved. Spending time with family, puttering on the farm, and always looked forward to tractor rides with the Rivers and Bluffs Classic Tractor Club.

All in all, Les enjoyed life and was blessed to have been given a family who adored him and a land that he loved.

Les is survived by his wife, Karen. Three children: Kay Erdman of Decorah; Kent (Jeri) Guttebo of Melbourne, Fl., and Kristin (Nathan) Cornelius of Springfield, MO. Five grandchildren: Jordyn and Amber Hussain; Elijah, Jayden and Ryan Cornelius. He is also survived by one sister: Rose Ann (Rick) Pridie of Sioux City, IA. Sister-in-law: Phyllis Rosendahl of Des Moines. Brother-in-law: Bill Kramer of Des Moines and many extended family members.

Les was preceded in death by his parents: Levi and Nora (Mikelson) Guttebo. Father and mother-in-law: Minnie (Nelson) and Gilbert Blekeberg. Aunt: Gladys Guttebo. Sisters-in-law: Gladys (John) Jennerjohn and Shirley (Robert) Lyon Kramer. Brother-in-law: Gerald “Bud” Blekeberg.
