Another Pioneer Mother at Rest.
On Monday morning last at the family home in Springfield township, Mrs. Christine Allen, widow of the late Guttorm Allen, died at the advanced age of seventy-four years. Mrs. Allen’s maiden name was Rishovd and she was born Nov. 6, 1828, in Krodsherred, Norway. She came to America in 1850 and lived first at Jefferson Prairie, Wis., where she was married, in 1851, to Guttorm Allen. In 1854 they came to Winneshiek county and settled in Springfield township, where the family home has since been maintained. Nine children were born to them, and of these six sons and one daughter survive. All but one son, Prof. Hans Allen of the Lutheran Ladies’ Seminary at Red¬wing, reside at or near home. The husband died about two and a half years ago. One by one these pioneer Norwegians who formed a little colony in Springfield township have passed away, until only a few of the original band remain. Mrs. Allen’s funeral will be held Friday at the home at 1:30 p. m., and the remains will be interred in the Haugen cemetery beside those of her husband.

Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows her name as Chrest. Iowa Gravestone Photos shows she is buried in Union Prairie Cemetery.
