Mrs. M. P. Riggs died at her home here Saturday, Jan. 30, after a long and painful illness. The funeral was held from the family residence Sunday at 11 o’clock a. m., Rev. Ross, assisted by Rev. Leaman of Calmar, officiating. Many old friends and neighbors assembled to pay their last respects to the dead. The remains were interred in Fair View{sic} cemetery. Abagail{sic} Baird was born in Ashland Co., Ohio, Jan. 9, 1834. In 1854 she came west with her parents, who settled one mile north of Castalia. June 10, 1857, she was united in marriage with M. P. Riggs and they settled on a farm adjoining her old home and where they lived until two years ago, when they retired from the farm and moved into town. As a result of their union four children were born, two of whom died in infancy, and two, Eudorus and W. B., survive their mother. The husband and children wish to thank the friends who so kindly aided them in caring for the deceased during her long illness.
