Death of a Veteran Editor.
Hon. M. M. Ham, one of Iowa's ablest editors in the veteran ranks, died at his home in Dubuque late Christmas evening. He would have attained 70 years had he lived until March. During his active years his pen made the Dubuque Herald a power in the democratic politics of Iowa. Being in the minority his opportunities to achieve political eminence were limited, but his colleagues, both republicans and democrats, recognized in him one of the ablest moulders of public sentiment. In the councils of his party he was prominent, and as an editor he had few superiors. For one term he represented Dubuque county in the state senate, and was postmaster at Dubuque during both of Cleveland's administrations.
