Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon at the Brandt Mortuary for Mrs. Vera Alice Brandt, who died in Broadlawns hospital, Des Moines, Monday morning. Mrs. Brandt was a resident of Decorah from 1932 until recently. She had been in poor health about six years and was acutely ill eleven days. Death was caused by a hemorrhage. Burial was in Phelps cemetery.
Mrs. Brandt whose maiden name was Vera Alice Lake, was born Sept. 6, 1897, at Maysville, Mo.
She is survived by her husband and one daughter, Miss Virginia Johnson, of Des Moines. She had been making her home with her daughter. Also surviving are one sister, Edith Price of Hawthorne, Calif., and three brothers, Roy Lake of Kansas City, Mo., Fred Lake of Horton, Kansas, and Charlie Lake of San Francisco.
Among those from out of town who were here for the funeral were two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Walter Johnson and Mrs. Marvel Seigger, both of Oelwein; and the following nieces and nephews, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Shipman, Mrs. Hattie Fisher, John Shipman and Mrs. Ounida Cuddeback, all of Des Moines.
The Rev. T. A. Hoff conducted the services and burial was in Phelps Cemetery.Decorah Journal, September 30, 1943
