Norbert L. “Norby” Ira, age 87, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Regional Health Services of Howard County in Cresco, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Aaron Junge officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in West Concord, MN at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18.

Norbert Ira was born on December 18, 1931, in Winneshiek County, Iowa south of Protivin. He is the son of Jerome and Adella (Michalec) Ira. Norbert was a 1950 graduate of Rudolphinum High School in Protivin. Norbert served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Upon completing his tour of duty, Norbert farmed his parent’s farm. On January 20, 1968, Norbert was united in marriage to Lyla Meyer in Zumbrota, MN. Norbert was a member of Tri County American Legion Post #605 Protivin. He enjoyed reading, bowling, and working with his Oliver tractors.

Norbert is survived by his wife Lyla, a brother Norman (Laura) Ira of West Salem, WI, niece and nephews Michelle, Michael, and Mark, brothers-in-law Jerome Meyer of West Concord, MN, Darrel Meyer of Zumbrota, MN, Michael (Brenda) Meyer of Zumbrota, MN, Roger Hinrichs of Zumbrota, and sister-in-law Patsy Meyer of Goodhue, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jerome and Adella, sisters-in-law Sandra (Dennis) Grant, Barbara Hinrichs, Irma Meyer, and brother-in-law Lyle Meyer.
