Dec. 15, 1904, the angel of death entered the home of Marcus Pierce and took the aged mother, Mrs. Celia Josephine Pierce, who has been in poor health for fifteen years, but at the last was only confined to her bed one day. Mrs. Pierce’s maiden name was Ball, born in Schuharie Co., N. Y., July 7, 1835; removed to Illinois in her girlhood where she married Stephen Pierce in Ottawa in 1853; came to Winneshiek County in 1860, where she has since resided. She leaves four sons, Wm., Marcus. Abel and Stephen, four daughters. Lucinda, Claude, Olive and Matie —six of whom were present at the funeral which was held at the M. E. church on Sunday, Rev. Dek of Alexis, Ill., preaching the funeral discourse.
