Mrs. John Heckle is in a critical condition. Physically she is weak but mentally weaker still. It is very sad to see a bright intellect so crushed. P. S. – A telephone message says death came to her relief yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

Mary Ann Stewart was born in Shire, Donegal, Ireland, Sept. 9, 1830, and died in Burr Oak, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1904, being 74 years old. She emigrated to America with her parents when but 9 years of age, and settled near Freeport, Ill., where she married John Heckle Sept. 13, 1848, and for 56 years they journeyed through life together, and death only separated them for six months. They came to Winneshiek County in 1857, where they reared a family of seven children, all of whom are living, with the exception of the eldest son George, who died much lamented seven years since. Mrs. Heckle has been a kind, good mother, an obliging neighbor, especially in sickness, and will be greatly missed in the circle in which she moved.
