Suicide in Canoe.
Coroner P. M. Jewell was called to Canoe township yesterday morning to hold an inquest on the body of Remak Jerviss, found dead Tuesday night near his home. The principal witness was James Jerviss, the father who said his son was about twenty-two years old and for two years had been subject to attacks of nervousness. Tuesday afternoon he took a rifle and went hunting. He was last seen alive between five and six o’clock. When he did not return at seven o’clock his father took a lantern and started out in search of him, finding him about a hundred rods from the house, a bullet hole in his head, and blood {o}ozing from his mouth and ears. He notified his neighbors, Dr. Emmons was called from Burr Oak and when he pronounced the boy dead, Dr. Jewell was notified. The young man had been con¬idered irresponsible for some time and when his attacks came on they had always been careful to keep firearms away from him, although he had never shown a disposition to harm either himself or others. During the day he had seemed morose and ispondent.{sic} The jury returned a verdict of suicide.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Burr Oak Cemetery and was born April 6, 1882 and died November 15, 1904.

Remak Perviss{sic} who passed away on the 15th inst., was born in our neighborhood and was always been a kind boy and a respectable man—always gentlemanly—appeared to dislike jesting or any light, foolish conversation—preferring good useful books or his music. All who knew him will remember his sweet music, both on the violin and banjo. For the last three years he has been in poor health. Having had the grip several times, his nervous system was wrecked and at times he was very melancholy. The heartfelt sympathy of all the friends and neighbors are extended to the almost heartbroken parents and the sorrowing brothers.

Transcriber’s Note: The above name must be a misprint as his gravestone shows Jerviss.
