Miss Battie Baldwin, whose illness we reported last week, continued growing worse, the bone in her ear having begun to decay so that an operation became necessary and was performed Saturday afternoon by Dr. Kiesau assisted by Dr. Jewell of Decorah. It was of no avail as she passed away at eleven o’clock Sunday night. The funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Centennial church with burial at the same place. Further particulars next week.

Died:--In the early morning of August 8th, after two weeks of pain and suffering from complications arising from mastoiditis, the spirit of Miss Bathshesba Asenath Baldwin took it's flight. She was born August 13, 1860, and with the exception of eight years’ residence in Postivlle, she has lived on the farm where she was born. Battie. as she was familiarly called, was in her usual health and only the day before she was stricken was in her accustomed place at church, no one thinking that she was so soon to be taken from us. She united with the M. E. church sixteen years ago and was ever loyal and true, always in sympathy with all the benevolent work of the church, especially the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society of which she was a member. In early life she fitted herself for teaching, but partial deafness coming on she gave up her chosen work and the remainder of her life was spent in loving service in the home. Four brothers and two sisters remain to cherish her memory—D. W., and Sarah, with whom she made her home, Wm. H and Thomas of Texas, George N., of Marble Rock, Iowa, and Mrs. J. W Whitson of Glasston. N. D., the two last being in attendance at the funeral, as were also her aunts, Mrs. A. H. Allen of Mankato, Minn., and Mrs. A. B. Frink of Algona, Iowa. The funeral services were held Thursday at 12 o’clock at the Centennial church, conducted by Rev Robinson of Postville. Many beautiful flowers were placed on the casket by loving friends as a token of their respect, and a large concourse followed her to her last resting place. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
