Another Pioneer Gone.
Caroline Russell Giles, widow of B. F. Giles, died in this city on Thursday last, and was buried from the Russell school house in the Russell cemetery, Canoe township, on Sunday last, Rev E. G. Hunt of this city officiating.
Caroline Russell was born in Greene county, Ill., Dec. 5th, 1833, and came to Fayette county, Iowa, in 1854. The following year the family removed to this county, and on the 9th of December of 1855 she married. B. F. Giles, and went to reside on the well-known Giles homestead, where she lived almost fifty years. On the 4th of March she moved into Decorah. Her husband died in July, 1889. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom survive her, viz: Edmund, Clarence, Frank and Ellen. The funeral attendance was a very large one and strongly attested the esteem in which she was held by all who knew her, especially of the pioneers, whom she and her husband represented. The latter began his residence in this county in 1850, before it was legally organized as a county.
