OBITUARY.
Never have the people of Ossian and vicinity been so sadly shocked as they were last Tuesday, on hearing of the sudden death of Dr. Geist, at McGregor. He was an exceptionally bright and accomplished man, with a very attractive personality and pleasing manner, which made him highly popular.
Dr. Geo. A. Geist was born at Detroit, Mich., in 1875. Ho graduated from the Detroit High School in 1891 and the medical department of the University of Michigan in 1895. He had since practiced his profession, except in 1901, when he took a post-graduate course. In the spring of 1902 he came to Ossian and remained until April, 1904, when he accepted the position of head surgeon at the Prairie du Chien Sanitarium. In his profession he met with almost marvelous success. Many a person in this community owes his life or that of some loved one to his professional skill.
He was possessed of a kind and genial nature, always friendly and cheerful regardless of his own feelings; his presence alone was cheering and helpful, and he was almost adored by his patients. He was generous to a fault in his dealings with others and seldom do we meet one who held the esteem and good will of so many, or whose death would be so deeply deplored.
Ho leaves to mourn his loss a wife, aged mother, sisters and brothers, and a host of patients and friends with whom his memory will live on forever.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan and that he was born January 15, 1874 and died June 14, 1904.
