OBITUARY.
Charles Rudolph, a resident of this city since 1859, died at his home on Mill street on Saturday morning inst, without a moment's warning, — heart failure being the cause—aged 8O years, 4 months and 27 davs.
Mr. Rudolph was born in Germany in 1823, and came to this country in 1853, stopping in St. Louis for a year, then removing to Wisconsin, and finally locating in Decorah. For thirty-seven years he was actively engaged in business, and by industry, frugality and integrity acquired a competence. The Rudolph block, which he built in 1869, was one of the first three story buildings and in its time was deemed an ornament to the city. In 1896-7 he retired from business, and passed from active labor to the quietness of a strictly home life; this being, in a measure, forced upon him by failing sight. In 1853 he married Miss Fredericka Borchert, who survives him. To them six children were born, only three of whom survive him. These are Edward and Miss Augusta of this city and Mrs. Emily Rudolph-Rowell of Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held from the family home Tuesday afternoon, Rev K. W. Robbins of Waukon officiating. Interment took place in the family lot of Phelps cemetery
