William Brinkman was born in Russen Hannover, Germany, Aug. 5, 1824. When less than one year of age his parents emigrated to America, landing at Baltimore in 1825. From there they went to near Pittsburg, Pa. When about ten years old he went to Cincinnati, Ohio, and a few years later moved with his parents to Dearborn Co., Ind. About the year 1844 he was married to Kathren Renner, to which union several children were born, of whom only one living, Mrs. Sarah Coba, of Spring Ranch, Neb. In 1854 he moved with his family to Clayton county, Io. Soon after his wife died. In 1857 he was marri{e}d to Barbara C. Christina. To this union four children were born, all of whom are living,—William F. of Osakis, Minn., George W and Mrs. Mary A. Butz of Ridgeway, Iowa, and Dr. John K. of Waterloo, Town. In 1893 he sold his farm and on March 1, 1894, moved with his wife to Ridgeway where he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Will, Butz, until his demise
In August, 1850 he joined the Methodist Episcopal church, having been converted at a camp meeting near Lawrenceberg, Ind.. He was faithful to his God, and loyal to his church, taking an active part in all church work. His place of worship was never empty unless compelled by sickness. He was admired by all who knew him for his beautiful Christian character, and his testimonies were an inspiration to all who heard them. He departed this life Feb. 24th, 1904, Having lived to be 79 years and 7 months. The cause of his death was throat trouble. He died as he lived, sweetly trusting in Jesus. He leaves a wife, five children, fourteen grand children, several great grand children, one brother and a host of friends to mourn his loss.
