We glean from the Canton Free Lance that John Miller died on the 12th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cooley Barrett, where he has made his home since the death of his wife five years ago. He retired on Monday evening in his usual health, after having eaten a hearty supper, and being called in the morning he made no reply. His daughter went to his bed and found him dead. Dr. Hart of Canton was called, and said death had taken place about three hours previous. Mr. Miller came from New York to this part of the country in 1858, and was nearly 83 years of age. It will be remembered by residents of Burr Oak of 35 years ago that he kept the “Burr Oak House,” (now Central,) and also that he had a blacksmith shop and did a thriving business.
