Ronald J. Johnson, 86, of Hartford, S.D., passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019, at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, S.D. Graveside service was Monday, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Walnut Hill Cemetery, 1350 E. Pierce Street, Council Bluffs. For online obituary and guest register go to the website at millerfh.com.

Ronald Jonathan Johnson, son of John and Rosella (Vagsness) Johnson, was born July 1, 1932, on his grandfather’s homestead in Frankville Township in Decorah.

He enlisted into the US Navy in 1951, and transitioned to the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He was untied{sic} in marriage with Joann Sept. 2, 1962m in Council Bluffs. To this union they were blessed with three children: Kevin, Diane and Kendall.

He used the GI Bill to obtain a Carrier HVAC, refrigeration technician. He became service manager for Carrier Traniscold Branch in Council Bluffs.

He was employed by American Freight until its closing in 1988. He moved to Council Bluffs where he began working for the Council Bluffs School System. He retired from Franklin Elementary School.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, and as of recently a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford, S.D.

Ron is survived by his three children: Kevin (Benita) Johnson, Diane (Al) Higby, Kendall (Kristine) Johnson; five granddaughters; one great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; his parents; siblings: Marion, Edgar (Mary Lou (Casey)) Johnson, Dorothy (Keith) Crabtree.
