Carol Leone Quam, age 76, of Decorah, Iowa, died peacefully on May 14, 2019, surrounded by her family At the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the St. Benedict Catholic Church at 307 West Main St. Decorah, IA with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding burial will be in the St. Benedict Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday May 17, 2019 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 9:30 at the church on Saturday.

Carol was born on July 1, 1942, the daughter of Joseph and Adeline (Waller) McCormick in Waukon, Iowa. Carol attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1960. Carol was united in marriage to Carsten Quam at St. Benedict Catholic Church on October 8, 1960. She was the proud mother of three children; Michael, Theresa, and Brenda. Carol worked at DECO Products for 49 years. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. When she wasn’t working she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family was the most important thing to Carol. She loved supporting her grandchildren with the sports and arts they participated in. She was well known in her family for her famous angel food cake. Carol liked to watch NASCAR races and support Jeff Gordon, she was also a big Iowa Hawkeye fan. Her sweet and gentile demeanor will be missed by all who loved her.

Carol’s survivors include her husband: Carsten Quam, Decorah, IA. One son: Michael (Deb Ryan) Quam, Waukon, IA. Two daughters: Theresa (Randy) Stortz, Decorah, IA, and Brenda (Kevin) Hovey, Decorah, IA. Eleven grandchildren: Natasha Quam, Brooklyn, New York, Ryan (special friend Janelle Reasoner) Quam; West Des Moines, IA; Bryce (special friend Kelly Donlon) Sivesind, Cedar Rapids, IA; Brianne (special friend Cody Massman) Sivesind, Decorah, IA; Derrick (Carley) Stortz, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington; Dustin (Erica) Stortz, Ankeny, IA; Darren (Lizzy) Stortz, West Des Moines, IA; Trisha (Cody Reicks) Stortz, North Liberty, IA; Krystle (Percy) Starr, Lenexa, KS; Walker (Jennifer) Hovey, Nashua, IA; Nichole (fiancé Kevin Hotvedt) Hovey, Decorah, IA; along with fifteen great grandchildren. Two brothers: Donald (Pat) Decorah, IA, and Kenneth (Mary) McCormick, Clear Lake, IA. Six sisters-in-law: Helen McCormick, Decorah, IA; Jule McCable, Decorah, IA; June Juve, Escondido, California; Nancy (Ronnie) Zweibohmer, Decorah, IA; Penny (Larry) Mestad, Decorah, IA, and Maribeth Rover, Waterloo, IA. Six brothers-in-law: Jim Ellingson, Hamilton,MT; Milton (Orma) Quam, Decorah, IA; Norman (Maxine) Quam, Decorah, IA; Roger (Louise) Quam, Decorah, IA; Dale (Evie) Quam, Decorah, IA; and Alfred (Deb) Quam, Decorah, IA. One aunt: Mary Waller, Poynette, WI, along with many nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph McCormick and Adeline McCormick. Her mother and father-in-law Adolph Milford Quam and Gertrude Elsie Quam. Two brothers: Jerry McCormick and Dale McCormick. One sister: Joyce Gates. Four brothers-in-law: Roy Quam, Kenneth Juve, Robert Dahlstrom, and Gary Gates. Three sisters-in-law: Alice Quam, Shirley Dahlstrom, and Elsie Lewis. Six nieces: Janet Dahlstrom, Lori Quam, Donna Bergen, Dawn Bergen, Cindy Burdick, and Melita Quam. Two nephews: Terry McCormick and Kyle McCormick.
