An Old Resident Passes.
Last evening after an illness of five days Mrs. James Bucknell, one of the oldest residents of Decorah, died from pneumonia. Mrs. Bucknell’s maiden name was Paulina Seward and she was born April 23, 1836, in Massachusetts. In 1851 she came west with her parents and lived at Dubuque. Here on December 30, 1854, she was married to James Bucknell. In the summer of 1855 they came to Decorah and here they have since resided, with the exception of seven years spent in Oregon. Three children were born to them, Wm., now in Panama, Mrs. F. J. D. Gremm who is at home, and Elmer, who died several years ago. For a number of years Mrs. Bucknell has been in feeble health, compelling her to remain at home much of the time. But in that home she wielded the gentle graces of a true and loving mother and a loyal helpmeet. The sympathy of a host of old friends will go out to Mr. Bucknell and the family when they learn of the bereavement which came to them last night.
