DANIEL MURPHY.
Daniel Murphy, brief mention of whose death was made last week by our correspondents at Ossian and Frankville, was born in Ireland about seventy years ago and came to America when a lad of thirteen. The family lived in the south for some years and Mr. Murphy spent considerable time in New Orleans, Vicksburg, St. Louis and other southern cities, particularly along the Mississippi. About forty years ago Mr. Murphy came to Winneshiek county and settled between Frankville and Ossian, where he continued to reside. His wife was a Minerva Wilson and she and two children—John Murphy and Mrs. E. A. Wilson—survive. Mr. Murphy was a thrifty man, who lived at peace with his neighbors and the world and bore all the obligations of a good citizen in a manner that won him friendship and esteem from a large circle of acquaintances. His death, which occurred on the 13th while on his way home from Ossian, was caused by paralysis.Transcriber’s Note: Find-a-Grave shows he was born in 1836.
